Richard Prince is famous for appropriation in his artwork, otherwise known as “rephotographing.” One of his recent works was a series called “New Portraits” in which he took other people’s photos from Instagram, photoshopped new captions on them, printed them, and sold them for up to $100,000. But is this art? What confuses me is that people would actually spend so much money on a stranger’s Instagram photo. And is it not stealing to be taking other people’s pictures and making a profit off of them without asking for permission? Read here for more!
